Basically, at 7.5", I'd say that the 36 would be a hair too small. At 7.25" (which is what my wrist size is), it's a push-em in terms of what looks better. At 7", I would think that the 36 would fit quite nice and fill in the wrist. I'd really recommending trying them both on back-to-back like Dog recommends.

Your wrist size accommodates the Explorer well within reasonable means. I have owned a neo vintage 14270 Explorer as well as the 39mm (which I felt was larger than the original design and lacked the “style” of the 36mm), and finally my current Explorer, a 2021 era 124270 36mm on my 7.25” wrist.Small dimensions with larger dial presence or large dimensions with smaller dial presence makes a difference. A 36mm dive watch with a thick bezel and short lugs might look small but the 36mm Explorer dial presence and lug length fits a lot of wrists, more lik a 38mm. I think both sizes could work for you. I understand why some may say it looks small on your wrist (because you could easily go with the larger size) but I don't think the 36mm looks "small" necessarily.
